Answering all the important questions

We’ve made Friends in Places as easy to use as possible, but we know there might still be questions on your mind, and on this page we aim to answer them. If you can’t find the answer you need, though, just get in touch – the details are on the Contact Us page. We might even post your question on this page to help future users.

Q. What’s the best way to make new friends?
It’s easy, and it’s all centred around your family’s profile. The Search facility allows you to look for families and groups according to the criteria that interest you. Looking for friends near you? Use your town as a search term. Prefer to make friends who share your interests? Search for your hobbies and you’ll find people with the same ones. This is especially helpful if you’re a sports team or hobby group looking for like-minded groups. Of course, while you’re looking for other people’s profiles, they’ll be looking for yours – so the more information you add to your profile, the better chance you have of people being able to find you, and wanting to get in touch when they do. We’ll also do what we can to introduce you to more new people who you’ll like. Again, our ability to find new friends for you depends on the amount of information in your profile, so if you haven’t told us much so far, update it as soon as you can and you could make a lot of new friends!

Q. I’ve found a family’s profile, and would like to get in touch with them. How do I do this?
Contacting people on Friends in Places is a two-way process. The first stage is to request contact with the person you’d like to talk to. We’ll let them know that you’re interested in making friends and they’ll be able to see your profile. If they feel that you’ll have some common ground, they can agree to the friendship and enable you to contact them directly. In the same way, if someone wants to get in touch with you, we’ll let you know. You can take a look at their profile, and if you want to make friends, one click is all it takes to activate the contact. Once contact is approved, your new friends are added to your Active Contacts list, which you can access from your profile. You’ll also be added to theirs. At this point you’re given access to each others’ email addresses, so you can get in touch with each other quickly and easily. It’s a simple, secure way of making new friends.

Q. I’m concerned about safety. How can I make sure that I’ll be safe meeting my new Friends in Places?
At Friends in Places we take your family’s safety very seriously. That’s why we have a dedicated Safety Tips page with helpful advice on how to feel more confident and secure when meeting your new friends. We can’t offer specific advice about every situation, but by reading our tips and exercising some common sense, you’ll feel comfortable and confident about meeting your friends.

Q. Can I book flights on this website?
We’re afraid not (although the ability to link to trusted partners will mean this is possible) – while Friends in Places offers a wealth of features to enhance your travel experience, a booking service through this website isn’t one of them at the moment. However, if you’re arranging a meeting with new friends elsewhere in the world, why not ask them for their advice? You might also want to look at the messages from our partners throughout the website: they could be very helpful as you plan your trip.
